With the holiday season now upon us, many have begun to deck their halls,
put up their trees, and are enjoying the festivities associated with this
wonderful time of year. While many of the activities associated with this
time of year are full of fun, it is important to remember a few safety
precautions in order to enjoy it without any unnecessary injuries.
Below we have laid out some helpful safety tips to keep in mind as you
participate in all that this season has to offer.
Check All of Your Lights Before Putting Them Up. Look at their specifications and see if they are for indoor or outdoor
use only. Make sure that none of the wiring is exposed on string lights
and double check that none of the bulbs are broken.
Maintain Proper Care of Your Tree. Buy the freshest tree you can at the lot and always make sure there is
water in the tree basin, so as not to create a fire hazard from an overly
dry tree. If you have a fake tree, make sure that it is a fire-resistant one.
Burning Candles Should Be Kept Within Sight. Do not leave a room without blowing out any burning candles. Keep them
away from your tree, out of reach of any children, and on a heat-resistant surface.
Stay Away From Unsafe Toys for Your Children. Be aware of choking hazards and potential for serious injuries when purchasing
gifts for your kids. Take a look at the 2016 list of the
10 Worst Toys, presented by the World Against Toys Causing Harm, Inc.
Practice Ladder Safety. Make sure that the ladder you are using for decorating the outside or
inside of your home is in full working order, with no loose screws or
broken steps. Keep it firmly on the ground and maintain three points of
contact with the ladder at all times.
